DIRECTIVE 2007/64/EC [Credit Card Payments]

DIRECTIVE 2007/64/EC [Credit Card Payments]

Our payment gateway service provider in Portugal, charges us every time we accept a credit or debit a variable discount rate (1%-3%). The new Directive 2007/64/EC, that was transpose to Portuguese Law at the end of its transposition expiry date (01/11/2009) allow us to charge an extra for every payment that involves transaction cost.

The fact is that everyone is missing the picture, the Directive creates transparency to payment operations and this is what you and us will gain from this.

On October 19, 2009 we published a blog post titled New Terms and Conditions effective November 1st, back then we knew that ultimately the Portuguese Government would have to transpose this Directive at the deadline.

For our customers this means we will not raise prices neither apply surcharges when paying by debit or credit card. At the moment we accept Visa and MasterCard. American Express is not accepted due to high discount rates, beyond the acceptable 3%.
