High temperatures in Madeira

Madeira is under a heat wave with temperatures rising up to 32ÂșC. The Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) issued a red alert to the mountainous areas of Madeira and a yellow alert for the rest of the island and archipelago. Madeira archipelago is under the influence of a hot and dry air mass with African origin until the 12th of July, being the warmest days today (9th) and tomorrow (10th of July 2013).

The UV index is at its extreme (>11) so people should wear sunglasses, sunscreen, hat and avoid sunbathing between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm.

Also, if you have plans for a walk through the forest keep your eyes open for fires and call 112 in case you see anything suspicious and do not forget to take water with you.
